Students from various schools across Nassau County gathered at Sacred Heart School in North Merrick in March to receive recognition for having won awards in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Bishop Kellenberg Education Contest. This year’s themes for the annual Education Contest were “Jesus Loves Us: How Do We Spread That Love?” and “How Do I Promote Peace in the World.” The categories were essay, poetry, art, computer art, music and photography.
Winners included students from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Regional School, Bellmore; St. William the Abbot School, Seaford; Brother Joseph Fox Latin School, Uniondale and St. Martin De Porres Marianist School, Uniondale.
Essay winners in grades 4-5 were John Paul Rincon in first place; Liam Byrne, second place, and Christopher Antimisiaris, third place. In grades 6-8, winners were Megan Huggard, first place; Andrew Donnelly, second place and Catie Cherpelis, third place.
Poetry winners for grades 4 and 5 were Ariana Cserenyi, first place; Pierce Wheeler, second place and Joseph D’Attoma, third place. In grades 6 and 8 Haley Gustavson won first place; Otis John Cowhey Reidy, second place, and Madison Callinan, third place.
Winners in photography in grades 6-8 were: first place: Sophie Mazza; Rebecca Acosta, second place, and Aidan McBrien, third place
Winners in computer art category for grades 4-5 were Ariana Cserenyi, first place; Stephan Loiseau, second place and Donevan Riley, third place. In grades 6-8 Noah Nicholson won first place; Camila Ardila, second place and Adrian Rojas, third place.
In the art category, the winners for grades 4-5 were Rachel Skennion, first place; Alexandra Danielowich, second place and Josh Suarez, third place. Ashley Harding won first place in grades 6-8, with Juliana Guzzello placing second and Joseph Clines placing third.
The first place winners in each category were sent to the state level contest for judging.
