Reality television has affected many areas of society negatively. The world has allowed what is being seen on television, not only dictate but copy and define, what society seems to think is real life situations are. Violence is one of the negative effects that I am going to shine a light on. A slap here, a table flip there, and if we're lucky, an all-out brawl violence was once just a scene-stealer on today's reality shows, but it now has become a part of some stars' real lives. Reality television has affected many areas of society negatively. The world has allowed what is being seen on television, not only dictate but copy and define, what society seems to think is real life situations are. Violence is one of the negative effects that I am going to shine a light on. A slap here, a table flip there, and if we're lucky, an all-out brawl violence was once just a scene-stealer on today's reality shows, but it now has become a part of some stars' real lives. If recent incidents on reality television are a gauge for what’s considered acceptable content, it seems the genre may have finally reached an all-time low with popular shows such as “Teen Mom” and “Jersey Shore” and ”Love and Hip Hop” airing disturbing scenes of domestic violence and battery. Domestic violence comes in all shaped sizes and colors. There is physical abuse, mental abuse, emotional abuse and sexual abuse. Repeated exposure to violence desensitizes children. Children that were observing these violence acts, increased the percentage of actually acting out to commit violence acts, are viewed as weak and emotional. Children are less likely to feel the same heightened emotions by witnessing violent acts consistently and repetitively. In 1968 American artist Andy Warhol said 'In the future, everybody will be famous for 15 minutes.’ The expression is normally linked to people in the entertainment industry and more recently related to those figures, involved in Reality TV.
There is no exact definition of Reality Television and people also have different opinions of what it is. But it tends be a combination of genres such as: documentary, drama and many other genre’s depending on the type show. It can also be described as ‘ a hybrid of non-fiction and entertainment elements’.
Charlie Parsons, creator of the television show, Survivor defines reality TV as
‘Shows containing producer created environments that control contestant behaviour'.

The reality show I am going to be analysing is ‘Made in Chelsea’ also known as MIC. The scripted reality series is a BAFTA award winning show that is broadcasted by E4 and first aired on the 9th May 2011.
Made in Chelsea was created as a posh alternative to The Only Way is Essex. You could call the two programme’s cousins to some extent.
Made In Chelsea follows the lives of ‘rich kids’ and ‘socialites’ living in West London. Other featured locations include: Barcelona Cannes, Chamonix, Dubai, Finland, Marrakech, Paris, Saint Tropez, South Africa and Verbier.
